About North Carolina Military Affairs Commission (NCMAC)

Most Military-Friendly State in the U.S.

The North Carolina Military Affairs Commission (NCMAC) provides advice, counsel, and recommendations to the Governor, the NC General Assembly, and state agencies on the State’s military.

NCMAC's vision is to make North Carolina the most military-friendly state in the United States.

The Commission promotes North Carolina’s Active Duty, National Guard, and Reserves in America’s defense strategy and the economic health and vitality of the State.

Military Installations and Infrastructure

NCMAC recommends actions to protect the existing North Carolina military infrastructure, maintain a high quality of life for military members and their families, and promote new military missions and economic opportunities for the State.

Military installations provide direct economic benefit to host communities and the State overall.  Military and civilian employment - as well as Defense contracts - infuse sizable, stable monies into every aspect of the economy.

The Commission is Organized with Four Standing Committees

Base Sustainability and Community Affairs - Promote, enhance, and protect NC's existing military installations and missions.

The 2nd Largest Economic Sector

The defense sector is the second-largest economic sector in North Carolina. This is due to the combination of the State’s military installations and other companies within the defense industry.

The women and men who transition out of the military compose a highly educated and technically-qualified workforce for other North Carolina industries.

Approximately 20,000 active-duty service members complete military service in North Carolina annually, providing a dynamic workforce pipeline.
