Since 2019, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction recognizes public schools that show a commitment to military students and families with Purple Star Awards. Schools must meet certain criteria to be awarded the Purple Star designation, including a staff member dedicated to assisting military families. This year, schools must apply by February 1.
Relationships between local schools and military installations strengthen when schools are supportive of military children. These can create connections, like the one between 2nd Radio Battalion and Blue Creek Elementary school, to support the traditions and values of each entity.
