A new U.S. Navy Fleet Readiness Center East C-130 Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul complex at the North Carolina Global TransPark in Kinston recently broke ground. This 700,000-square-foot facility will create over 400 jobs and generate $400 million in investment for the region. Construction is set to begin later this year and be completed by September 2026. The complex will support the maintenance and repair of Navy and Marine Corps aircraft, including C/KC-130J Super Hercules, C/KC-130T Hercules, and HH-60W Jolly Green II helicopters.
On this Purple Heart Day, we honor the brave men and women wounded or killed while serving our nation. The Purple Heart, one of America's oldest military decorations, traces its origins to 1782 when George Washington created the Badge of Military Merit. On July 27th, we observe Korean War Veterans Armistice Day to honor the brave Americans who fought to defend freedom and democracy in the Korean War from 1950-1953.After years of brutal combat, an armistice was signed on July 27, 1953, by the United States, China, and North Korea, ending the fighting. Though the war is sometimes called "The Forgotten War", the U.S. saw 1.8 million Americans serve in the Korean War with over 36,000 service members killed in action.
