Coast Guard Marks 234 Years

On August 4, 1790, the Revenue Cutter Service, which later became the Coast Guard, was founded by Alexander Hamilton to enforce tariff laws and combat smuggling. Since then, this multi-mission maritime service has grown to protect over 100,000 miles of U.S. coastline and inland waterways, safeguarding an Exclusive Economic Zone of 4.5 million square miles.

From search and rescue missions to maritime law enforcement, environmental protection, and national security, the Coast Guard has been "Always Ready" to serve our nation. Today, we salute the brave men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard for their unwavering dedication and service to our country.
