In 1999, the U.S. Congress designated a day in May to honor the sacrifice of military spouses. The Friday falling before Mother's Day is recognized as National Military Spouse Appreciation Day.
As of December 2022, there are nearly 60,000 active duty, reserve, and National Guard spouses* in North Carolina alone. Today we acknowledge the sacrifice and commitment of military spouses across the nation and the world. Whether their service member is at home or deployed, military spouses provide support and stability for their families.
