Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, is a significant US holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved individuals. It is the oldest of its kind, known as Emancipation Day and Freedom Day, and honors the resilience, unity, and cultural heritage of the Black community.
In 2007, North Carolina became the 26th state to recognize Juneteenth as a holiday, and on June 17, 2021, it became a federal holiday through the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act. Juneteenth symbolizes freedom, liberation, and celebration, fostering connections and empowering the community while acknowledging a pivotal moment in American history.
