U.S. Coast Guard Celebrates 233rd Birthday

On August 4, the U.S Coast Guard commemorates its founding in 1790 with congressional approval. Its initial purpose was to construct the inaugural fleet of vessels dedicated to combatting smuggling and enforcing tariffs and taxes. The U.S. Coast Guard plays a vital role in patrolling and upkeeping U.S. inland waterways, spanning from the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River.
