The Turning Point of World War II

D-Day, June 6, 1944, was the largest seaborne invasion in history. Allied forces from the United States, Britain, Canada, and other nations landed on the beaches of Normandy, France. Their mission? To liberate Western Europe from Nazi Germany's control. Thousands of ships, planes, and over 150,000 troops took part in this daring operation.

Despite facing fierce resistance, the Allies secured a foothold in Normandy. D-Day marked the beginning of the end for Hitler's forces and paved the way for the eventual victory of the Allies in World War II.

Today we remember the bravery and courage of the service members from the U.S. who carried out the D-Day operations in Normandy. We also honor the memories of the 40,000 troops who gave their lives on June 6, 1944.
