In November 2022, Denny Lewis of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina led stakeholders on a tour of Fort Bragg. Participants met with the Garrison Commander, experienced military technologies, and learned about the impacts of North Carolina's defense and academic industries.
Mr. Lewis said, "No other state has the concentration of users (warfighters); academia partnerships; state and private support for its military, their families and the industries that support them; and a robust innovation ecosystem that together define the 'Frontline of the Future'."
Military installations provide direct economic benefits to host communities and the State overall.
In combination with Defense contracts, installation employment infuses sizable, stable monies into every aspect of the economy. Civilian careers provide job opportunities on bases for local citizens. Military and civilian employees work together to support service members and their families through programs like the USO, Exceptional Family Member Program, and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation programs.
NC Packs for Patriots provides holiday cheer for deployed service members from North Carolina installations. The organization collects donations and puts together care packages with toiletries, snacks, and other items.
Nonprofit organizations like NC Packs for Patriots exist because of the military presence in the state.

Thank you to the veterans who served our Nation. The sacrifices made by veterans throughout their military careers are numerous.
Our goal is to make North Carolina the most military-friendly state in the U.S. Around 678,000 veterans call North Carolina home, and the number of military retirees is expected to increase by 2031. We hope many veterans settle in North Carolina.

On this Veterans Day, we remember all those who have served or are serving in our country's armed forces. Veterans make significant sacrifices throughout their military careers to ensure our Nation's safety. The U.S. population includes approximately 19 million veterans with just over 678,000 in North Carolina.
Today, we also show gratitude for the signing of the Armistice Treaty, which officially ended World War I in 1918.

Today marks the 247th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps!
North Carolina houses three Marine Corps installations throughout the state. In 2012, MCAS New River became the first to train on MV-22 Osprey planes.

NC residents and businesses are encouraged to shine a green light in support of our veterans during the week of November 7-13. Multiple NC counties are participating in this nationwide initiative.
One hurdle that medical personnel face when transitioning out of the military is licensure. It can also impact military spouses when moving from another state.
