Fort Liberty's Garrison Command Sergeant Major Gregory Seymour, in collaboration with Lendlease Communities and IHG Army Hotels, officially marked the beginning of construction for a new Candlewood Suites hotel. This 207-room hotel, projected to open in early 2026, will serve as the 17th Candlewood Suites property and is part of the Privatization of Army Lodging initiative. The initiative aims to enhance on-post lodging services for Service Members, their Families, and government travelers.

Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, located two miles southeast of Goldsboro, North Carolina, was established during World War II. It was initially activated in June 1942 as Headquarters, Technical School, Army Air Forces Technical Training Command. The base was named in honor of U.S. Navy Lt. Seymour A. Johnson, a Goldsboro native and test pilot who died in a plane crash in 1941.

Commanded by the Adjutant General of NC, this two-star general leads 11,000 citizen soldiers and airmen across six Army Major Subordinate Commands (MSCs) and the NC Air National Guard.
Local civilian and military first responder agencies in Wilmington recently collaborated with Marines from Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River and Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron One (VMX 1) for emergency response training related to military aircraft mishaps. The exercise, made possible through the support of local civilian partners, aimed to prepare first responders for responding to military aircraft incidents, as they are often the first on the scene outside of military installations. This training was the first of its kind held in Wilmington.
The U.S. Coast Guard Reserve has supported the mission of the U.S. Coast Guard since 1941.
