Today we celebrate the workers and business owners across our state who contribute to North Carolina's economy and quality of life. ​Throughout the state, military veterans join the civilian workforce and run small businesses each year. The Defense Alliance of North Carolina states that "10.56% of the total number of businesses in North Carolina are majority-owned (51%+) by veterans which is nearly 17% (+1.52%) higher than the national state average of 9.04%."​
The North Carolina State Board of Education adopted a provision from the "Veterans Auto and Education Improvement Act of 2022” that creates an easier pathway for military personnel and military spouses to be hired as licensed educators.​ 
Today we celebrate the establishment of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve on Aug. 29, 1916. The Marine Corps Reserve was officially established through the Naval Appropriations Act of 1916, as the demand for warfighters grew during World War I. ​From just 35 Marines in April 1916, the Marine Corps Reserve has grown to be the largest command in the United States Marine Corps, boasting around 40,000 Reserve Marines and 184 Reserve Training Centers across the country.
