The North Carolina Defense Summit continues today in Raleigh! Attendees yesterday listened, learned, and engaged with keynote speakers and panels regarding community partnerships, military childcare best practices, small business opportunities with government, and more. We look forward to continuing the conversation about the defense sector and military in North Carolina.
The last Sunday in September is recognized as Gold Star Mother's and Family's Day. This day is dedicated to recognizing the pain, grief, and sacrifices endured by mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, and sisters who have lost a family member in service.​The term "gold star" originated during World War I when families displayed blue stars for each family member serving in the armed forces. If a service member died in action, the blue star was replaced with a gold star, signifying their ultimate sacrifice for the nation.​
​Today, we remember those who lost their lives during the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001. Our thoughts are also with those who were injured and the families who endured lasting impacts.​​We recognize the commitment and courage shown by the first responders and service members who fearlessly stepped forward to defend our freedom.
