The installations across North Carolina often connect with their communities to share about their missions. In August, Pope Army Air Field welcomed a variety of community members, including aviation leaders, to engage with the airmen and their families.​

The Defense Technology Transition Office (DEFTECH) aims to increase business for North Carolina companies by connecting them with the Department of Defense. This also increases federal spending in the state, boosting North Carolina's economy.​

Today we remember those who lost their lives during the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Pennsylvania. We remember those who were injured. We remember the families who were impacted.​
Today is the National Day of Service. In honor of all those who have served in the armed forces since 9/11, Americans are encouraged to volunteer at VA national cemeteries. Volunteers will clean headstones and complete other beautification projects across the nation.

North Carolina is home to four veterans' cemeteries. Consider volunteering your time today and throughout the year in remembrance of those who have given their lives for our country.
You are invited to register and attend the 2022 North Carolina Defense Summit (NCDS) in Raleigh, NC, on September 27, 2022, 8:30am to 4:30pm, at Raleigh Marriott Crabtree Valley, 4500 Marriott Dr., Raleigh, NC 27612.​

This Inaugural Defense Summit presents best practices in advancing North Carolina as the most military, veteran, and defense industry-friendly state in the nation.​

Summit objectives include: ​

1. Advocate for individual, community, and installation resilience ​

2. Build installation and military host-community partnerships ​
Thirteen of the universities in North Carolina have an Army ROTC program. Each year, these programs graduate cadets who are commissioned into the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserves, and North Carolina National Guard. North Carolina's universities contribute to the defense sector through their research programs and by educating future Army officers.​​

With the start of the academic year, these campuses are welcoming new first-year cadets. We wish the cadets, new and returning, the best of luck this year!
The military has been present in North Carolina and bringing positive economic impacts for decades. ​

In August this year, Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City celebrated 82 years in North Carolina. Starting with a small team, the air station grew and now is the largest employer in northeast North Carolina, with a workforce of 2,000 military members and civilians. ​
