The 1st Space Brigade integrated space operations into the U.S. Army Special Operations Command's capabilities exercise at Fort Liberty, demonstrating how the Army's space-cyber-special operations forces partnership supports multi-domain operations. Soldiers used a small form factor system to coordinate joint space effects, including providing spectrum awareness and monitoring satellite communication links.
On June 22, 1944, the GI Bill was signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The GI Bill provided unprecedented benefits to World War II veterans, including low-cost mortgages, low-interest loans, tuition assistance, and unemployment benefits. Overall, military spending is estimated to support 6653,263 jobs within North Carolina, which is roughly 11 percent of North Carolina's approximate 5.9 million jobs as of 2020. The military supports a significant number of jobs across various sectors, with 130,952 federal government jobs, 27,583 state and local government jobs, and 494,729 private industry jobs. The Construction sector has the highest number of military-supported jobs at nearly 80,000, while other major sectors include Health Care and Social Assistance, Retail Trade, Professional Services, and Administrative Services.
On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce that all enslaved people were free. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control. Juneteenth marks the day that the last enslaved African Americans finally learned of their freedom. Family members were offered the unique opportunity to attend "In Their Boots" day at Camp Lejeune. The day allowed families to experience a typical day in the life of their Marine or Sailor. Grier Martin, NC Secretary of Military and Veterans Affairs, Kirk Warner and Carolyn Closs, NC Miltary Affairs Commission, received a briefing and tour of the Veterans Life Center (VLC) located in Bunter, NC. The Veterans Life Center is designed to help at-risk 21st Century veterans and prevent them from falling into crisis – chronic homelessness, incarceration, suicide or premature death. Since 1995, the Military World Summer Games have been held every four years, one year prior to the Olympic Games. The event is organized by the International Military Sports Council and brings together military athletes from over 100 nations to compete in a spirit of friendship and sportsmanship.Charlotte, NC is in the running to host the 2027 Military World Summer Games, if the United States is named the host country. The opportunity to serve as the host city could bring $3 billion in revenue to the state.
