Fayetteville State University completed the Survey of Transitioning Service Members in 2022. Over 400 service members throughout North Carolina participated in the survey, and it revealed that 40% planned to stay in NC after separating from the military. Additionally, the most desired jobs were in the fields of logistics, maintenance and repair, and information technology.

At the 2022 North Carolina Defense Summit, Dr. Kevin L. Griess, Deputy Garrison Commander – Fort Bragg, presented best practices for partnerships in providing road repair and maintenance. Fort Bragg entered into a mutual Intergovernmental Service Agreement with NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to provide advanced road repair and maintenance for the Fort Bragg installation.
This agreement brings high value for NC DOT for sustained revenue on road projects and cost savings to Fort Bragg with costs reduced by 40% compared to in-house Fort Bragg assets.
The North Carolina Department of Military and Veteran Affairs presented World War II Veteran Cosmas D. Eaglin, Sr, with a certificate of appreciation and the Department’s challenge coin. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, and Mr. Eaglin is one of the original Monford Pointe Marines. He was one of the first 300 black recruits after the Fair Employment Practices Commission was established in 1941.
Mr. Eaglin also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Military spouses have often overlooked heroes with professional degrees that aren't fully utilized with the demands of moving, deployments, or state licensing.
During the North Carolina Defense Summit, Jamie Kight from JK Premier Marketing discussed how companies can tap into the military spouse workforce by offering remote positions. In fact, flexibility and remote work boost productivity by 47%. Setting up a remote business model will provide employment and flexibility for military spouses while boosting the success and productivity of the business itself.
Topsail High School in Pender County becomes the second NC high school to establish a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program. It is the fifth program of its kind in the United States.
The JROTC program teaches high school students about military history, and the benefits of the military, and instills leadership skills in participants.
